"When you reach an obstacle, turn it into an opportunity. You have the choice. You can overcome and be a winner, or you can allow it to overcome you and be a loser. The choice is yours and yours alone. Refuse to throw in the towel. Go that extra mile that failures refuse to travel. It is far better to be exhausted from success than to be rested from failure." -- Mary Kay Ash
About John Jay
Soulful singer John Jay makes his most potent connection to date with new album The Dreamer’s Session – Live (Available Nov. 11, 2022). The Atlanta singer-songwriter’s fourth full-length is an uplifting culmination of two decades spent working with some of the East Coast’s finest artists and as a solo performer with a uniquely resonant take on contemporary gospel.
“In these difficult times, I hope my music can be a beacon in the darkness, bringing people together and inspiring them to live their best lives,” said Jay. “The overall goal of the album is to help people who, like me, have big dreams but are also fighting big insecurities.”
Born into a family of singers, songwriters, and preachers, music and spirituality are in Jay’s blood. “There was hardly a time in our house where there was no music playing,” he recalled. “I can still hear the static from that old record player’s worn-out needle.” By his early 20s, Jay was touring with a Grammy-nominated and Stellar Award-winning group and spent several years in an international Christian band before going solo in 2011.
“I feel like I’m finally enjoying the fruits of my labor,” said John Jay, an ordained minister. “And I get to deliver a message that reaches beyond the four walls of a church.”
The Dreamer’s Session – Live is the first concert album released by John Jay, who is a member of Kevin Styles & Psalms gospel choir and has also sung background for several Gospel/CCM artists including most recently CCM artist Jacob Cantrell's live recording. Jay's new album was recorded in 2016, but it took an epiphany to convince Jay that the time had come to share it with the world.
“I wasn’t sure if I would release it but was inspired by a message preached by Bishop T.D. Jakes,” he explained. “He spoke about how some people go through life and never give themselves wholly to anything or anyone. I felt convicted and a new hope was sparked.”
A successful businessman himself, Jay swiftly assembled a team of top industry professionals to mix, master, and release The Dreamer’s Session – Live. Featuring Stellar Award nominee LeJeune Thompson; John Jay’s biological father, renowned gospel organist John “Binky” Flowers; acclaimed recording artist Deli Rowe; and the explosive up and coming Pastor Mike Maye, the inspirational collection showcases Jay’s supple timbre and relentlessly optimistic faith at their most vibrant and visceral.
“The road to success is never easy. There were many challenges, but the biggest were my inner struggles,” said John Jay. “I want my album to inspire and motivate people to push beyond negative emotions and take hold of every good thing that God has for them, just beyond their doubt/fear.”
"The Dreamer’s Session – Live" is available for pre-order today, with immediate access to five tracks.
